The Story Behind TripleGem Books

People often ask me how TripleGem Books began. The honest answer is that it began the way most of the best things in my life have — with my family, and entirely by surprise.

Within the space of just three days, I became a grandmother twice over. Two tiny, perfect people arrived into our family almost at once, and the world tilted a little on its axis. If you have held a newborn grandchild, you will know the feeling I mean: a love so sudden and so enormous that you hardly know what to do with it.

What I wanted to do with it, it turned out, was give them something. Not a toy that would be forgotten by the spring, and not another little outfit they would grow out of in a month. I wanted to give each of them something that said, in a way they could keep forever: you are wonderful, you matter, and your story is worth telling.

I didn't want them to simply read a story. I wanted them to be the story.

So I went looking for books. Beautiful children's books are not hard to find — but I wanted one where my grandchild was the hero. Where the little face on the page looked like the little face I was rocking to sleep. Where their name was the name on every page, and the adventure was theirs alone. What I found never quite went far enough. The personalisation was often just a name dropped into someone else's story, with a child on the cover who looked like any child but mine.

I kept thinking: surely it should be possible to do this properly. To create a book where the child truly is the hero — their name, their likeness, their kind of adventure — and to make it beautiful enough to sit on a shelf for twenty years and be handed down. That thought wouldn't leave me alone. And so, with a great deal of help, TripleGem Books was born.

What we set out to make

Everything we do still comes back to that first wish. When you create a book with us, you tell us about your child — their name, their age, the things that make them them — and you can add a photo so the illustrations carry their real likeness. We craft a one-of-a-kind story with your child at the very heart of it, and we show it to you as a free preview before you ever pay a penny. Only when you are happy do we bring it to life — as a beautifully illustrated hardcover delivered to your door, or as an ebook you can enjoy far sooner.

I'm a grandmother, so I'll be honest about the things I cared about most. I wanted it to feel personal, not mass-produced. I wanted it to feel safe — gentle, age-appropriate stories, and a child's photo treated with the care you'd expect. And I wanted it to feel like a keepsake: the sort of book a child asks for night after night, and one day reads to their own little ones.

Why "TripleGem"

To me, every child is a gem — rare, precious, and quite unlike any other. My grandchildren reminded me of that all over again, and the name is my small way of carrying that feeling into everything we make. Whether you're a parent, an aunt or uncle, a friend, or a grandparent like me searching for something truly special, my hope is simple: that the child you love opens their book, sees themselves shining back, and knows they are the hero of their own story.
